How MathGems works
MathGems combines professionally printed maths fluency booklets with regular timed practice, a gem-based reward structure and an Excel tracking system for scores, analytics and reports.
Four progressive versions
MathGems is available across four versions, supporting learners from Pre-Entry through to Entry Level 3 / Functional Skills Level 1.
Timed “Dig” activities
Learners complete short, focused maths activities called “Digs”, usually using 5, 10 or 15 minute MathGems YouTube timers.
Regular weekly practice
MathGems is designed for routine use, with many settings choosing two Digs per week, although this can be adapted to suit the provision.
Gem collection and motivation
Learners “collect” gems throughout the year, with gems increasing in value as they progress. A clear diamond can be awarded for a perfect Dig.
Standalone Excel tracking system
MathGems comes with a supporting Excel system for recording scores, reviewing analytics and generating automatic learner reports.
Curriculum integration
Where appropriate, MathGems can also be integrated into a provision’s Subject-Specific Assessment System as part of its maths curriculum.
